KFC is giving their customers more at mealtime – and not just an extra piece of their original recipe chicken. The QSR company has recently developed a new kind of meal box that gives consumers the ability to charge their phone in addition to enjoying a tasty meal. The “Watt Box”, which is only available in Mumbai and India for a select time, introduces the idea of adding functionality and utility to a standard meal. By tapping into their consumer insights, KFC is able to engage their target audience by meeting two crucial millennial need states: food and (charged) technology. Although the cost of the packaging may not be practical for mass distribution, it shows how KFC is connecting with their target audience on a different level, and forecasts their desire to bring more to their customers in the future.
