Walmart hopes to build their consumer database and simplify customer rewards with their new mobile app. The “Savings Catcher” app will deliver on the company’s longstanding promise to match competitor prices. The new app, which is the brand’s first digital extension of their ad match guarantee, allows consumers to scan receipts on their smartphones. Then, a third-party firm tracks online and print advertisements from Walmart’s rivals and automatically loads the refund amount onto a Walmart gift card, to be used online or in-store, for the customer. With hopes that the innovative app will eliminate the tedious task of going through advertisements and clipping coupons, Walmart sees potential value in the 65 percent of Walmart shoppers that have smartphones. The company believes it can provide a convenience to shoppers while simultaneously accessing valuable customer data. In the near future, Walmart plans on building shopper analytics into the app, providing customers with the capability to search and sort e-receipts as well as view money spending pie charts, predictive shopping lists and budgets. Walmart can expect to find success in “Savings Catcher” because of the app’s simplicity, convenience and extensive range of capabilities. For more information, click here.
