For the latest back-to-school season, Target has released a new online platform to give first-time college students an interactive way to decorate future dorm rooms with specific products (sold at the retailer) to suit their organizational and aesthetic needs.

Using a short personality quiz and the user’s (and roommate’s) Facebook and Instagram profiles, the platform is able to create a virtual mock-up of a potential dorm room outfitted with Target products based upon quiz results and specific likes, keywords and tags on social media. From there, the digitally active millennials are encouraged to shop from the personalized product catalogs matching their lifestyle and to share with friends using the hashtag, #MadeForU.

This creative promotion taps into the craze of personality quizzes and the excitement of starting college, along with popular social outlets millennials already use regularly. With the hope that the quiz results truly reveal personality traits, interests and style preferences, the user can purchase products directly from the personalized dorm room and make the move into the dorm that much easier.
