Mountain Dew is rolling out a new banner ad campaign that takes the social media functionality right out of social media. The campaign will feature banner ads on sites such as MTV and College Humor that will allow web users to ‘like’ Mountain Dew within the banner ad on the site, rather than taking them through Facebook. Although these ads will not actually appear on Facebook, when a user ‘likes’ any of the Dew ads, the action will appear in their friends’ Facebook news feed, as long as they are logged in to the social site while surfing the web. As another layer to this campaign, users will be able to see which of their Facebook friends have already ‘liked’ Mountain Dew within the ads themselves.
