December, 2009 Avatar, in an effort to create buzz prior to the movie release, launched a campaign present on all social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube. The campaign included Facebook links where users could “Avatarize” themselves, ownership of the YouTube homepage simultaneously in fifteen countries, and a Twitter frenzy that led up to the film’s release. The campaign also included a partnership with Facebook and MTV to hold a webcast featuring James Cameron and the movie’s stars.
